The Ocean County Library has always offered a wide variety of fun and wonderful events for all ages, and since reopening have been offering some virtual events. Many branches are providing kits that include books and crafts designed around a theme, as well as separate craft kits for younger children, 'tweens, and teens. Now, in addition to all of these great possibilities, you can have fun with the library by participating in one of the many virtual experiences that are being offered through the Ocean County Library website! I Spy at Home: (All ages) A game to play at home or on the go! I can spy a…how ‘bout you? I spy something, you might too. I-spy with me and I’ll I-spy with you. Can you name all the objects in the picture? When you are finished listing them, try all or some of the companion activities using the Ocean County Library databases. It is always more fun when you work together, so see if a family member can join you to complete some of these activities. You can complete some of these activities virtually on a video chat with your family and friends.
Outdoor Scavenger Hunt: (All ages) Enjoy the beautiful weather and take a walk around your neighborhood. See if you can spot the items on the Scavenger Hunt sheet available by clicking the activity name.
Storytime to Go Book Bundles: (Available at the Lacey Branch through December 31, additional branches are also offering them with listings in our calendar) You're invited to the Lacey Branch to bring the storytime experience home with a "Storytime to Go" Book Bundle. "Storytime to Go" bundles are available for a wide variety of topics including Bedtime, Bugs and Building. Each bundle includes four books, a list of songs and rhymes and a simple craft or activity. Bundles are a "grab and go" item and are meant to be taken as a set. Each book must be checked out separately. New " Storytime to Go" sets will be added throughout the summer.
Snack Attack for Teens and Tweens!: Watch OCL's awesome Teen Services librarians as they demonstrate some super easy ways to get creative and have fun in the kitchen. Please feel free to substitute ingredients according to any food allergies you may have. Yes, you can make all kinds of amazing treats,and impress your family and friends! Tween/Teen DIY Glitter Jars with Ms. Sloane: People of all ages will enjoy crafting these easy glitter jars. Soothing and serene, they add a pop of color to any space in your home. It is a great stress buster! Click the activity name to access the link for the video.
2020 Teen Reading Challenge: (Through December 31) Read at least ONE book each month to earn a ticket for our three grand giveaways at the end of the year. *Each month one lucky winner will be drawn for a chance to win a mystery prize.
